Contactless Donation Service

How to Get Free Contactless Donation Pickups in Your Area

If it’s time to do a cleanout and get rid of your unwanted and unused stuff, you should know that you can get rid of it for free with contactless pickup from your home.

DonateStuff takes some of the headaches out of the donation process–and helps you do some good in your community. This post can help you understand more about how to donate to DonateStuff, the areas we serve, and our charity partners.

How Donation Works with DonateStuff

We know that cleaning out clutter is hard work. That’s why we make donating your unwanted stuff easy. Just three easy steps and you’ll declutter—and do some good in the process.

#1 Choose a Charity

We partner with local charities that are doing good in your area, and you can pick the one you’d like to benefit from your generosity.

#2 Schedule Your Pickup

Choose a date in our scheduling system to determine the best pickup day for you. On the scheduled date, we pickup your donation and leave a receipt that includes a tax deduction form for tax time.

#3 Put Out Your Donation

Leave your donation bags or boxes at your front door, and write DONATESTUFF on them all—and we’ll take it from there.

Benefits of Contactless Donation Pickup

Once you put out your donation, you don’t have to worry about it. It’s out of your life once our team takes it from your doorstep.

There’s also the benefit of reducing contact with people, particularly during times when we need to be careful about spreading the flu, COVID-19, and other illnesses. Contactless pickup is vital for those who are at high-risk and want to avoid interacting with people to protect their health.

Overall, contactless pickup from your front door just makes the process easier. It eliminates the need to pack up a car and run back and forth to a donation site. It’s simple—one less headache, right?

Donating Electronics/Games and Devices

Did You Know You Can Donate Gently Used Video Games and Electronics—with Free Pickup from Your Home?

Donating Electronics & Video Games

When you are preparing your next donation of old clothes, books, and household items, think about including old electronics and video games as well. These items often accumulate in closets and entertainment centers, but they can find a new life if you donate them to DonateStuff.

What Electronics & Video Games Can You Donate?

DonateStuff welcomes working stereos, radios, Wii, Xbox, Nintendo, Playstation, tablets, computers, laptops, monitors, DVD players, and small TVs.

Things to Consider When Donating Electronics & Video Games

Before you pack up those old games and electronics, there are a few things you should think about.

Check If It Works

Make sure that your old electronics are in good working condition. An old TV or gaming system that doesn’t work can’t be resold, so it’s better to put it in recycling (if possible) or in the trash. Check that your electronics turn on/off properly, and you have all the components needed to operate them, like cords and remote controls (if included), etc.

Remove Batteries

Even if your electronics have batteries that are still working, please remove them before packing them up into your donation box or bag.

Make Sure Game Disks Aren’t Damaged

If your donation includes games on disks, make sure they aren’t scratched or cracked. If your games are cartridges, check and make sure they work and aren’t damaged.

Don’t Forget to Clear Out Data

If you’re donating a tablet or laptop, clear out all the private data you have on the device. This typically requires that you restore the device to factory settings.

What Other Items Can You Donate to DonateStuff?

Electronics and video games are just one of the categories of items we accept at DonateStuff. As you clean out your home, consider some of the following items for donation:

Clothing

We accept all sizes of gently worn clothing, shoes, and accessories for ladies, men, children, and babies, including tops, bottoms, coats, undergarments, footwear, purses, hats, belts, and jewelry, plus suits and sport coats.

Housewares

We welcome mildly used bedding, blankets, drapes, curtains, rugs, towels, pillows, and sleeping bags. DonateStuff also accepts pots, pans, cups, glasses, dishware, silverware, tools, art, frames, and other home decor.

Toys & Sports Equipment

We accept clean, lightly used toys and children’s items like stuffed animals, dolls, action figures, board games, tricycles, bicycles, and sports equipment.

Small Furniture & Appliances

We are looking for easy-to-lift and transport nightstands, headboards, office chairs, small filing cabinets, and other lightweight furniture. We also take small (working) household appliances, including microwaves, blenders, toasters, and coffee makers.

Books

Help us find a new home for your gently used books of all genres, including hardcover and paperback editions.

Items Not Accepted

There are thousands of items throughout your home that you can donate to DonateStuff, but there are a few exceptions. We cannot take large furniture and appliances, like large dressers, mattresses, box springs, refrigerators, and stoves. We also don’t accept magazines, encyclopedia sets, and newspapers. When it comes to baby items, we can take clothing, toys, etc., but we don’t accept car seats and cribs.

Donation Drop Off vs. Donation Pickup

Donation Drop Off vs. Donation Pickup Services

If you have unused, unwanted items cluttering up your spaces, you probably have a good idea of how you could benefit from freeing up much-needed room in your home. But did you know that your donation could also help you do good for others? Making a positive impact in your local community with your donations is another benefit that might encourage you to declutter.

Before you get started on planning what to donate, do you know that not all donation services are created equal. What type of donation service is best-suited for your lifestyle? Learn more about the differences between donation drop off and donation pick up services to help guide your choice.

Donation Drop Off

Donation drop off is a popular choice for individuals looking to declutter. This method of donation entails loading donations into your vehicle and finding a donation drop-off location to take them to.

Finding a Donation Location

It’s not always easy to find a location to drop-off donations of unwanted or unneeded items. You may live in a rural area or simply not have a nearby location when you want to donate your household items, sports equipment, clothing and more. Also, what do you do when a charity or organization you want to donate to doesn’t have a location near you? An online search can help you find potential donation locations for your unwanted items.

Heavy Lifting Required

Some items are large, heavy and difficult to move, making it a challenging task for people who are older or not physically able to lift big items to transport them from their current location into a vehicle and to a donation drop-off location. Also note that if you’re dropping off your donation at a staffed location, you will need to get there during business hours, which can be difficult to fit into an already full schedule.

Who Does Your Donation Help?

Once you find a nearby donation drop-off location, you might wonder who will benefit from your donation. Having a say in who benefits from those donated items is important for the many donors who want to not only declutter their home, but also provide help to those in need. Before donating, do a quick web search of the organization to see who benefits from your donated items.

Donation Pick Up

Donation pick up offers a simple, hassle-free donation experience. Compared to donation drop off, donation pick up can be an appealing alternative when it comes to decluttering unwanted items, especially for individuals with busy schedules. Opt for a pick up service that allows you to pick the charity you wish to benefit to ensure you have a say in how your donated items do good.

Simplify Your Schedule

Donation pick up services give you the option of having your unwanted items picked up at the time that works best for you. For organizations such as donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud, you don’t even need to be physically present at the time of pick up. Simply place your unwanted items out for pick up prior to the scheduled time, check that they are clearly marked for pick up, and then go on with your day. A great solution for busy people!

More Places to Donate To

When you’re dropping off donated items, you’re restricted by geography and distance. There might only be so many options to choose from in your area for dropping off donated items. With donation pick up services, you can eliminate those barriers and donate to a much wider range of charities and organizations. Have a charity you love but it’s too far to drive to? With donation pickup services that allow you to choose your charity, you can schedule a donation pick up to benefit them from the convenience of your home.

Ease of Pick Up

Let’s face it: Many unwanted, unneeded items sitting around our homes are there because they’re a hassle to move. Too bulky, too many bags, too heavy, too hard to get a good grip on, etc. Skip the headache with convenient pickup services that turn your own front porch into a donation drop off site. Rather than having to haul small appliances, sports equipment or other unwanted, potentially hard-to-move items, scheduling a donation pick up means all you need to do is move those items a short distance and allow the pick-up service to take it from there.

donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud Pick Up

donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud offers a FREE and convenient donation pick-ups that not only help you free your home of clutter, but also help to make a difference for reputable local charities in the communities we serve. We offer simple, straightforward scheduling through our website and SMS text messaging, allowing you to set up your donation on your phone or mobile device within minutes.

Receive confirmation once your pickup is scheduled and a friendly reminder the day prior to your scheduled pickup so you’ll remember to place your donated items out for our drivers. Then, just ensure those items are clearly marked and left in a visible, accessible location and you’re all set. In no time at all, you’ll have turned stuff you don’t need into a good deed. Goodwill & Other Donation Charities

Goodwill & Other Donation Charities

There are many donation charities on the market for those looking to declutter and organize their home or workplace while also benefiting people in need. Goodwill donations can be helpful in getting rid of items you no longer need and supporting causes like Habitat for Humanity is a good way to have a positive impact on your community. But what if you could benefit your community and do it with a few taps on a screen?

How Goodwill Benefits Charities

Goodwill Industries store revenues provide retail jobs by selling your unwanted clothes. However, when you donate items to Goodwill Industries, you don’t have the opportunity to decide which charity you want to support using proceeds from the sale of those items. You also have to lug your donation to your vehicle, spend time and gas driving to the nearest Goodwill donation center – during its hours of operation – and carry your items inside. While your donations do benefit good causes, donating isn’t as easy as it could be.

How DonateStuff Benefits Charities

donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud is a great alternative to other donation services. We partner with a wide range of local charities in the communities we serve and offer donors the chance to select the charity they want to support. Our family of charity partners includes organizations that assist veterans, pets, individuals with disabilities and kids. When you donate your clothing, small appliances, sports equipment, books and more, those items bring much-needed help and hope to those served by these great non-profit organizations.

Convenience of Pickup Donations

Cleaning out a space and getting rid of unneeded items can be a hassle. It’s why we so often put it off, knowing how much time and effort it will require to sort through everything stored in a spare room, garage or attic. But that’s only part of the battle; you still have to get rid of the items you no longer need once you’re done cleaning. Donating them is a great option, but with many donation services, you have to haul your items to a specific location during a specific time window in order to donate.

donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud is the superior choice for not only donating unneeded items, but doing so in the most convenient way possible. Rather than you having to drop off your donation, we pick it up for you. Using our website or simple text/SMS scheduling process, setting up your donation pickup is quick and hassle-free. Simply enter your zip code to confirm that we offer pickup service in your area, choose the local charity you want to support and then view available pickup dates and times.

Once you’ve chosen your day and time, submit your information and you’ll receive a confirmation message. You’ll also receive a reminder message prior to your pickup and on your pickup day, just set your items outside in a clearly visible location with a note marking them as donations. Our helpful drivers will take it from there, picking up your items and hauling them away. If you need to reschedule your pickup, just let us know and we’ll help you find a new date and time.

What Can I Donate?

What Can I Donate?

Can I donate that? It’s a question that often comes to mind when cleaning, decluttering or organizing a space within your home and looking for a place to donate unwanted items. Finding a donation dropoff near you can be tough and you may not have a nearby charity you want to support. Throwing away those items fills up landfills, harming the environment. donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud is the better choice for donating items you no longer need, with easy scheduling and text messaging reminders to help you remember your scheduled pickup time. We accept a wide range of items, including used toy donations, clothing donations and book donations.

Learn more about the items donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud picks up:

Clothing

Clothing is one of the most commonly donated items. Whether it’s kids who grow out of clothing as they get older, items that no longer fit or simply time for a new look and style, when closets get cleaned out, those items need to go somewhere. donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud makes it quick and easy to donate your unwanted items without the hassle of finding a donation dropoff or a charity near you. Simply choose from a list of local charities to select which one you’d like to support, then schedule your pickup!

Gently Worn Clothing

We accept all sizes of gently worn clothing for women, men, children and babies, including:

Shirts/blouses
Pants
Dresses,
Coats/jackets
Undergarments
Sweaters
Sweatshirts
Suits and sportcoats

Gently worn clothing has been used and broken in, but is well-cared-for, with no large stains or holes. Items such as coats and jackets are great to donate in the spring and fall, when the weather changes quickly and layering is necessary to stay warm.

Shoes

If the shoe no longer fits – donate it. Feet grow, styles change and shifts in jobs or hobbies can leave gently worn, no-longer-needed shoes, boots and sandals consuming valuable real estate in your closet. Find your footwear a new home by conveniently donating it through a donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud pickup. We accept all sizes and styles of gently used shoes and even if that once-favorite pair of kicks is no longer your go-to choice, they can actually help do good for some worthy causes!

Accessories

The right accessories can make or break your look. Maybe a career change or move to a new area has left you with accessories you no longer need. Make room for the new and donate the old with a clothing donation that’s as simple as scheduling, setting your items out and allowing our donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud teams to pick them up without you having to leave home. Here are some of the accessories we accept:

Belts
Purses
Hats
Jewelry

Household Items

The right tools make it easier to get the job done whether it’s in the kitchen or at the workbench.

These are just some of the gently used tools, dishware and kitchenware we happily accept:

Pots & pans
Glasses
Dinnerware
Small working appliances
Small hand tools

Books, Toys, & Games

As kids grow up, it’s not uncommon for various hobbies and interests to come and go. Objects like stuffed animals, board games, bicycles, sports equipment, stereos, radios, video game consoles, laptops, monitors, books and musical instruments that are no longer played with by your child to go to others in need of these items. That Wii, Xbox or Nintendo Switch doesn’t need to gather dust and take up space in your house – donate it and give it new life.

Small Furnishings / Appliances

What qualifies as a small furnishing or appliance? Items such as easy-to-lift and transport nightstands, headboards, office chairs, small filing cabinets and other light home items all fall into this category. If you’ve been putting off donating these items because you don’t want the hassle, then donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud is your solution! Schedule a pickup and select your charity – we’ll take care of the rest.

Donating Used Toys

Your How-to Guide on Donating Used Toys

If you’re getting bogged down with too much stuff and struggling with overflowing storage space, you aren’t alone. Cleaning out closets, the basement or the attic is the last thing most of us want to do. Plus, where do you get started? We suggest looking at how much storage space is being taken up by one of the usual suspects: Old toys.

Particularly as children grow, old toys often end up getting packed away and can take up a great deal of space. Some of those toys may be passed down as heirlooms or given to other children in your life, but if you’re ready to give your old toys a new home, this guide can help.

And remember, donating your gently used toys is a great way to make sure they aren’t taking up space in your home or a landfill—and the toys get to have a second life with a new child.

How to Prepare Your Donation

Once you sort out the toys you would like to keep, it’s time to clean and sanitize them. Some soft toys like stuffed animals can be run through a washing machine. It’s typically smart to put them into a garment bag to avoid damage. Otherwise, wipe them clean with soap and water, and do the same with any plastic toys.

Check the toys over to make sure they aren’t broken or missing parts, and remove old batteries. It’s also a good idea to see if there have been any recalls on the toys you donate.

Types of Toys DonateStuff Accepts

We accept a wide variety of gently used toys and children’s items including, but not limited to:

  • Stuff animals
  • Dolls and action figures
  • Toy cars and trains
  • Electronic games and systems
  • Board games
  • Coloring and activity books
  • Tricycles and bicycles
  • Outdoor and sports equipment
  • Building blocks and Legos

How Donation Works with DonateStuff

We know that cleaning out clutter is hard work. That’s why we make donating your unwanted toys easy. Just three easy steps and you’ll get rid of your old stuff—and do some good in the process.

#1 Choose a Charity

We partner with local charities that are doing good in your area, and you can pick the one you’d like to benefit from your generosity.

#2 Schedule Your Pickup

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF GREATER CLEVELAND LAUNCHES NEW CLOTHING DONATION FUNDRAISING PROGRAM

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF GREATER CLEVELAND LAUNCHES NEW CLOTHING DONATION FUNDRAISING PROGRAM.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is committed to clearing the path to a child’s best and brightest future. But we wouldn’t be able to provide any kind of assistance without the support of an ever-expanding network of committed donors. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland is excited to announce our new, free home-pickup service for clothing, shoe and home good donations through www.donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud! Now residents around Cuyahoga County and beyond can support BBBS by scheduling a free pickup at your home of gently used clothing, shoes and home goods.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Clothing Donations and their Impact

BBBS believes that all kids have potential – sometimes all they need is someone to defend it. Research shows that the more supportive relationships you develop as a young person, the more likely you are to thrive as an adult. Kids matched through our program for at least a year have the greatest impact and success – they do significantly better in school, feel better about themselves, and are less likely to pick up drugs or alcohol.
Our work is essential as it changes lives for the better. By giving clothes or household items, members of our community invest in all of the different factors that allow BBBS to build and sustain these meaningful, one-to-one match relationships.
Through this partnership, we have a dedicated call center to schedule free pickups, and fleet of a dozen trucks that travel across Cuyahoga County every day to pick up donations of clothing and small household items. Funds raised through this program help BBBS support its team of case managers and other staff that provide mentoring services and activities to children across Northeast Ohio.
To schedule a free home pickup, please visit www.donatestuffsandbox.kinsta.cloud.

Purple Heart Day

Purple Heart Day on August 7 commemorates the creation of the oldest American military decoration for military merit. The Purple Heart honors the men and women who are of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. During the American Revolutionary War, the Badge for Military Merit decorated six known soldiers.

General George Washington created the Badge of Merit in 1782. The honor was to be presented to soldiers for “any singularly meritorious action.” Its design included a purple, heart-shaped piece of silk bound with a thin edge of silver. Across the face, the word Merit was embroidered in silver. While the badge symbolized the courage and devotion of an American Patriot, no one knows who designed the award.

Until Washington’s 200th birthday, the Purple Heart persisted as a Revolutionary War footnote. Through the efforts of General Douglas MacArthur, the U.S. War Department created the Order of the Purple Heart. Today the medal bears a bust of George Washington and his coat of arms.

While an accurate and complete list of names no longer exists, National Geographic recently estimated that nearly 1.9 million Purple Hearts have been awarded since its creation. It’s the oldest U.S. military honor still bestowed upon service members today. Until 1944, the Purple Heart recognized service members’ commendable actions as well. Then in 1944, the requirements limited the award to only those wounded or killed in combat.

Purple Heart Firsts
  • William Brown and Elijah Churchill received the Badge of Military Merit during the Revolutionary War when the award first replaced the Fidelity Medallion.
  • Army General Douglas MacArthur received the first modern-day Purple Heart.
  • Army Lt. Annie G. Fox received the Purple Heart during World War II for her actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

HOW TO OBSERVE #PurpleHeartDay

Honor everyone who has received a Purple Heart. Learn more about the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  Use #PurpleHeartDay to post on social media.

PURPLE HEART DAY HISTORY

Since 1932, Purple Heart Day has been celebrated on both Washington’s birthday and Valentine’s Day. Some states and cities observed Purple Heart Day in their own way at different times throughout the year.  Each declaration encouraged citizens to support wounded veterans with the purchase of a purple viola.

No matter when the day was observed, it recognizes the merit, and more importantly, the men and women killed and wounded in combat who earned the badge of honor. As the day evolved, it more commonly was observed on the day of the Purple Heart’s creation.

811% increase in textile waste since 1960

WASHINGTON D.C. – Research conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found that textile waste increased from 1.76 million tonnes in 1960 to 16 million tonnes in 2015, a rise of 811 per cent.

The amount of textiles which ended up in landfill has also seen a sharp increase, from 1.71 million tonnes in 1960 to 10.5 million tonnes in 2015 – which equates to around 66 per cent of textile waste.

Some categories of textiles have shown a more substantial waste growth than others. Plastic-based materials have the largest increase in textile waste since 1960 at 8,746 per cent, whilst both rubber and leather have also shown a noted increase at 361 per cent.

On a more positive note, recycled textiles have increased from 50,000 tonnes in 1960 to 2.5 million tonnes in 2015; however this should come as no surprise due to the growth of recycling as an option for the general public since the ‘60s.

The recycling rate for all textiles was 15.3 per cent in 2015, with 2.5 million tonnes recycled. Within this figure, the EPA says it estimated that the recycling rate for textiles in clothing and footwear was 14.2 per cent, based on information from the American Textile Recycling Service.

In May of this year, the Sustainable Fashion Academy’s Mike Schragger spoke with Nin Castle from Reverse Resources along with Ian Brown and Dale Floer from Scalable Garment Technologies. All three interviewees discussed their respective solutions for facilitating the transformation of textile waste into usable, and perhaps most crucially, valuable resources. You can read quotes from the interviews and listen to it in full here.

Do you have too much stuff? Is your house a loosely-joined collection of garbage piles among which you tread, as dazed and rudderless as a possum in a landfill? Are you tied to your material possessions because you have chosen to fill the empty parts in your life with consumerism and thus your soul is scattered among promotional t-shirts and expired tubes of body lotion?
Are you, dare we say it…
Untidy?
On New Year’s Day, Netflix released the series “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo,” a minimalist home/life improvement show based on the wildly popular 2014 book “The Life Changing Book of Tidying Up” and starring the book’s author, Japanese organization expert Marie Kondo.
Needless to say, the whole experience has plunged people down their own personal trash chutes of existential crises. And thrift shops and used book stores are reaping the benefits. (Read more…)
